Zcash Surges Past $1,000 as Market Capitalization Approaches $17 Billion
The Zcash cryptocurrency has surged by over 20% in the last 24 hours, breaking through the $1,000 barrier. This significant price increase is part of a larger trend that has seen the token nearly double its value over the past month.
Alongside this price appreciation, trading volume for Zcash has skyrocketed to approximately $1.2 billion in 24 hours, while the cryptocurrency's market capitalization has approached $17 billion. This surge has put Zcash back on the map as a top digital asset, following a broader market recovery led by Bitcoin's return to above $81,000.
The rapid price increase caught investors off guard who had bet against ZEC. Around $36.6 million in leveraged positions were liquidated over the last 24 hours, with $34.5 million of these being short positions. This type of liquidation can accelerate the price movement as it requires the closure of these positions by buying back the asset.
The Grayscale ETF's launch and interest from institutional investors have been significant factors in Zcash's recent rally. The Digital Currency Group, controlling parent of Grayscale, was also in discussions to purchase approximately 200,000 ZEC through a subsidiary. Additionally, advancements in technology, such as those made by the Zakura team, which reduced transaction times for private transactions from over three seconds to less than 200 milliseconds, have further contributed to the cryptocurrency's appeal.
