Zcash Surges Past $1,000 as SEC Clears Regulatory Path
The price of Zcash (ZEC) surged past $1,000 for the first time on September 4, 2026, as investors took notice of a spot ETF conversion and a closed SEC probe. The nearly two-year investigation into the Zcash Foundation closed in January 2026 with no enforcement action, clearing the regulatory path.
Grayscale converted its nine-year-old Zcash Trust into the ZCSH spot ETF on NYSE Arca on August 25, 2026, launching with $304 million in assets under management that have since grown past $414 million. The listing itself was a significant signal, as it marked a US-regulated exchange hosting a product giving brokerage account holders direct exposure to a privacy coin.
Monero, another major privacy coin, has received no such clearance and remains absent from virtually every US exchange. The ZCSH listing created a two-tier system among privacy coins overnight: Zcash on one side with institutional access, Monero on the other without it.
