Zcash Surges Past $1,000: Can It Hold Ground?
Zcash (ZEC) has reached $1,000 for the first time in nearly a decade. This milestone marks a significant turnaround for the privacy-focused cryptocurrency, which was trading at less than $10 in early 2016.
The recent surge in ZEC's price can be attributed to several factors. The launch of Grayscale's US-listed Zcash ETF has opened up exposure to traditional investors through brokerage accounts, attracting fresh inflows and contributing to the rally.
Momentum for privacy-focused cryptocurrencies has also returned, with more ZEC moving into shielded pools. Recent technical upgrades have made private transactions faster, further boosting demand.
The price of ZEC jumped by about 20% in just 24 hours, briefly reaching $1,023. The sudden increase was accompanied by the liquidation of roughly $34.5 million in short positions, as traders forced out of bearish positions had to buy back their positions, adding fuel to the move.
However, leverage has continued building after the squeeze, with total ZEC open interest climbing toward $2.4 billion. This makes the current price level especially important, as it could determine whether this rally can build a stable base or lead to a rapid liquidation event.
