Zcash Surges Past $1,000 Mark in Record-Breaking Year
Zcash has had an incredible year, with its price skyrocketing from $41 to over $1,000 in just twelve months. The cryptocurrency's market cap now stands at around $21 billion, making it the tenth largest by size. This remarkable growth can be attributed to several key factors.
One of the main reasons for Zcash's success is its use of zero-knowledge proofs, a technology that allows transactions between shielded addresses to remain fully encrypted on the blockchain while still being verified as valid. This has led to an increase in the use of shielded pools, with 28.8% of all ZEC now held in these pools.
The launch of the phone wallet Zodl (formerly Zashi) in March 2024 also played a significant role in Zcash's growth. The wallet shields by default and allows users to make swaps between other chains through NEAR Intents, making it easier for people to use Zcash. As a result, the share of shielded transactions has climbed to 86.5%.
Additionally, the introduction of a Zcash ETF on NYSE Arca in August 2026 has increased market visibility and legitimacy for the cryptocurrency. The ETF's prospectus discloses a 2.5% annual fee, which will be spent on marketing initiatives that support the development and education of the Zcash Network.
