Zero Liquidation Price: Strategy's Massive BTC Holdings Safe from Margin Calls
Strategy's massive Bitcoin holdings have long been a topic of speculation and concern. One question on everyone's mind is what happens when Bitcoin drops hard enough to trigger a margin call? The answer, according to CEO Phong Le, is nothing.
The company has no net debt, thanks in part to its recent $2 billion equity capital raise. This means there's no price level at which creditors could force Strategy to dump its massive BTC holdings, currently valued at over 840,000 units.
Strategy's balance sheet shows a $6.69 billion dollar liquidity reserve, consisting of a $5.1 billion USD reserve and $1.59 billion in flexible cash. Its outstanding convertible debt sits at approximately $6.75 billion, meaning cash on hand nearly matches total debt obligations dollar for dollar.
Le has stated that debt-related concerns would only become relevant during an extreme Bitcoin price collapse, something in the range of $8K to $10K per coin. This is a significant shift from earlier phases of its Bitcoin accumulation strategy, which relied more heavily on debt issuance to fund purchases.
