ZeroHash Seeks OCC Trust Charter for Expanded Crypto Services
ZeroHash has applied for a national trust bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), expanding its digital asset services. The OCC is an independent bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department responsible for regulating and supervising national banks.
The application does not seek authorization to offer retail deposit accounts, consumer lending, or FDIC insurance on client funds. Instead, ZeroHash wants federal authorization to provide a defined set of digital asset services including custody, staking and validation, transfer agent services, trade execution, stablecoin management, settlement, clearing, and escrow.
The OCC has not indicated a timeline for a decision. The agency's pipeline of digital asset licensing applications has grown substantially over recent months. Current applicants include Morgan Stanley Digital Trust and World Liberty Trust Company, which is affiliated with the Trump family.
