Zeus Wallet Halts Operations After Security Breach, User Funds Secure
Zeus Wallet, a self-custodial Bitcoin Lightning Network application, has suspended all infrastructure operations following a security breach detected on August 5, 2026. According to the company, no user assets were compromised or endangered during the attack.
The company's founder, Evan Kaloudis, stated that the investigation revealed no security flaws in the Bitcoin Lightning Network node infrastructure. As a result, users whose Lightning Service Provider channels closed due to the service interruption will receive new channels once operations are restored.
Kaloudis emphasized that customer funds were never at risk and attributed the protection of user assets to the wallet's self-custodial architecture, which gives individual users direct control over their own cryptocurrency holdings.
The company has not announced when operations will be restored, but Kaloudis highlighted the importance of the security incident in validating the ongoing development efforts focused on trusted execution environments and enhancing security features such as the Validating Lightning Signer project.
