Zimbabwe Expands Fintech Sandbox with Seven New Participants
Zimbabwe's Securities and Exchange Commission (SECZ) has approved seven fintech projects to participate in its regulatory sandbox. The cohort was selected from a pool of applicants and will be allowed to test blockchain platforms, tokenization tools, and crowdfunding solutions under controlled conditions.
The SECZ's sandbox program is designed to provide a safe environment for innovative companies to experiment with new ideas while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This marks a significant expansion of Zimbabwe's approach to regulating digital finance, building on existing infrastructure established by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) and the Virtual Assets Act.
The approved projects include Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange, Ndarama Standard (Private) Limited, Questview Brokers (Private) Limited, Crowdaxe Capital (Private) Limited, and Procode Platforms. These companies will have to comply with supervisory requirements during the testing phase, and those that fail may see their projects shelved.
The SECZ's sandbox structure provides an additional layer of oversight for fintech innovation in Zimbabwe, complementing existing regulatory frameworks. This move is expected to promote investor protection and confidence in the country's digital finance sector.
