Zondacrypto Founder's Disappearance Sparks Probe into Missing Assets and Unresolved Reserve Claims
Zondacrypto's collapse has become a complex financial and criminal investigation after its founder disappeared and the former CEO remained abroad.
The exchange, which was rebranded from BitBay in 2014, was one of Central and Eastern Europe's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. However, regulatory pressure in Poland pushed it to move its registration to Estonia.
Founder Sylwester Suszek disappeared on March 10, 2022, after traveling to a meeting in Czeladź, Poland. His family received messages claiming he had been kidnapped and demanding Bitcoin for his release. Those threats were never confirmed by investigators, leaving his fate unresolved after more than four years.
Meanwhile, former associate Marian Wszolek was charged with kidnapping and money laundering allegations connected to the case. However, public reports indicate Wszolek also disappeared before a final resolution.
