Zondacrypto Head Seeks Leniency in Exchange for Testimony on Politician Ties
Zondacrypto's head, Przemysław Kral, is cooperating with Polish prosecutors after being charged with large-scale fraud. He may receive a reduced sentence in exchange for testimony that could reveal the exchange's funding of right-wing politicians.
Prosecutors estimate Zondacrypto customers lost at least 2.4 billion Polish zlotys ($650 million), with only part of customer funds used to buy crypto and the rest transferred to private accounts controlled by Zondacrypto managers.
Kral has been negotiating a potential deal with prosecutors for six months, meeting informally in Poland, Sicily, and the Persian Gulf countries. He has denied accusations of misappropriating funds, pointing out that the exchange's Bitcoin wallet was inaccessible due to missing private keys from the founder Sylwester Suszek.
Zondacrypto sponsored the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held in Poland before the presidential election won by Karol Nawrocki. Companies owned by Kral made payments to foundations linked to politicians Zbigniew Ziobro and Przemysław Wipler.
