Zondacrypto Scandal Rocks Polish Politics, Bares Corruption

Share

The Zondacrypto scandal has deepened the political crisis in Poland, involving high-ranking officials and even the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki.

The investigation into possible fraud and money laundering, which began with a probe into at least 2.4 billion zlotys (around 535 million euros), is expanding to include allegations of illegal financing and lobbying for the crypto platform's interests.

The public prosecutor’s office and security services are investigating schemes involving Zondacrypto's management, including expensive gifts and insider information given to officials such as Radosław Pesewicz, President of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), who has been charged with receiving undue benefits from Zondacrypto.

The situation has been exacerbated by witness testimony in parliament, which has led Prime Minister Donald Tusk to accuse the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party of being 'held by the throat by very bad people'.
