The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into a case where $73,000, £15,957, and 827,800 Saudi Riyals were seized at Kano airport. The suspect, Haruna Yusuf, was handed over to the EFCC by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for further investigation.

The NCS intercepted the undeclared currencies during routine screenings of arriving passengers between August 8 and August 12, 2026. On August 8, $53,300 in Saudi Riyals was found concealed inside a footwear, while on August 12, $20,000 USD and £15,957 were discovered inside sportswear shoes.

The Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC, Friday S. Ebelo, expressed gratitude to the Customs Service for their professionalism and cooperation, emphasizing that declaring currency is mandatory and failure to do so may raise legal concerns.
