AI Cyber Risks Emerge as Top Threat to Global Financial Stability
Financial Stability Board Chair Andrew Bailey has sounded the alarm on the growing threat of AI cyber risks to global financial stability. In a letter to G20 finance ministers and central bank governors, Bailey highlighted the development of artificial intelligence as a key factor in changing the speed, scale, and economics of cyberattacks.
New technologies may accelerate the discovery of vulnerabilities in digital systems, requiring companies to install updates and address security flaws quickly. This, combined with the lack of sufficient mechanisms for overseeing AI deployment, poses significant challenges for financial institutions.
The reliance on a limited number of major technology providers also raises concerns. If such companies experience widespread problems, it could undermine confidence in markets as a whole.
