Air Canada Ditches Flexibility in New 'Basic' Premium Fares

Air Canada has introduced new 'Basic' fare tiers for Business Class and Premium Economy tickets, which come with restrictive terms despite offering premium hardware.

The airline is applying a strategy of unbundling luxury cabins to capture price-sensitive travelers who prioritize the physical product over service ecosystem benefits.

Business Class Basic passengers will still sit in the Business cabin but will face restrictions on refunds, seat selection, lounge access, baggage allowance, and upgrades.

Air Canada's current fleet deployment indicates that Air Canada Signature Class offers individual pods with fully flat beds on long-haul flights operated by Boeing 777, Boeing 787, Airbus A330, and Airbus A321XLR. Regional Business Class typically uses conventional reclining seats for shorter routes.
