The province of Alberta is celebrating Food Day Canada by recognizing its agricultural producers and encouraging residents to support local food systems. The day, which takes place on August 1st, aims to celebrate Canadian cuisine and the farmers, ranchers, and processors who produce it.

According to Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Tara Sawyer, Alberta plays a significant role in the Canadian food industry, with the province being Canada's largest producer of beef, honey, and processed potatoes. It is also the second-largest producer of canola and wheat, as well as a major exporter of oats, barley, and pork.

Sawyer invites all Albertans to try new foods from local grocery stores, visit farmers' markets, or dine at restaurants that feature locally sourced ingredients. She highlights the importance of agriculture in powering Alberta's economy and strengthening communities across the province.
