Alberta Celebrates its Agricultural Prowess on Food Day Canada

Food Day Canada is an annual celebration of Canadian food, agriculture, and the people involved in producing and preparing it. The event takes place on August 1st every year, and this time around, Albertans are being encouraged to recognize the province's farmers, ranchers, and food processors.

Tara Sawyer, Alberta's Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, highlighted the importance of agriculture in the province's economy. She noted that it supports jobs, communities, and economic growth across Alberta, making it a significant contributor to the country's food industry.

Alberta is Canada's largest producer of beef, honey, and processed potatoes, as well as the second-largest producer of canola and wheat. The province also remains a major exporter of oats, barley, and pork. Sawyer emphasized that Alberta's agricultural products are in high demand globally, with international chefs and consumers enjoying foods made with Alberta ingredients.

As part of the Food Day Canada celebration, Sawyer is encouraging Albertans to support local food businesses and products. She suggested visiting the local food section of a grocery store, shopping at farmers markets, or dining at restaurants featuring Alberta products.
