An independence group in Alberta has released its 'transition plan' for the province to become a sovereign nation. The report, which totals 214 pages, outlines how life in Alberta would change if residents vote in favor of separation from Canada.

The Alberta Transition Council claims that not all aspects of governance are within the province's control and that negotiations with Ottawa and other entities would be necessary for areas such as debt, mobility, energy infrastructure, pensions, borders, and assets.

The plan suggests using the Canadian dollar as a starting point for currency, but leaves room for transition to the U.S. dollar or an Alberta-issued currency in the future.

On mortgages, the group proposes that the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation be allowed to continue its services in an independent Alberta, with an alternative plan put in place if this is not accepted.
