Aldi Retains Cheapest Supermarket Crown as UK Grocery Prices Ease
Aldi has retained its title as the UK's cheapest supermarket for the eighth consecutive month in August, according to data from consumer group Which?. The discount chain held onto its top spot with an average price of £159.36 across a list of 92 everyday groceries.
Lidl came close behind in second place, with prices averaging £161.10, just £1.74 more than Aldi's total. Asda took third place, followed by Sainsbury's.
The Which? study also found that shopping with a Nectar card at Sainsbury's was cheaper than using a Clubcard at Tesco, saving an average of 5.01% in August.
UK inflation rate rose to 2.9% in the year to July, but grocery inflation eased to its lowest since October 2024 in August, standing at 2.1%. This is down from 2.6% in the previous month and 3% the month before that.
