Alphabet Enters Australian Bond Market with A$5 Billion Kangaroo Bond Issue
Alphabet is preparing its first-ever Australian dollar-denominated bond issuance, worth approximately A$5 billion. The company plans to issue bonds across four tenors, 3-year, 5-year, 10-year, and 20-year, with ANZ, Deutsche Bank, RBC Capital Markets, and TD Securities serving as joint lead managers.
This marks Alphabet's entry into the Australian bond market, where tech giants have collectively raised hundreds of billions of dollars in debt to fund AI capital expenditures. However, Google parent has been tapping debt markets extensively this year across various currencies, including US dollars, Swiss francs, and euros, with a recent US$25 billion dollar-denominated issuance.
Alphabet's move into the Australian market may present a different picture compared to the surge in tech bond supply facing the US market. Some Australian fixed income fund managers believe that given the limited supply of technology corporate bonds in the local market, Alphabet's issuance carries strong scarcity value.
