Alphabet Seeks A$5 Billion in Australian Dollar Bond Sale Amid AI Spending Surge
Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has begun marketing its first Australian dollar bond sale as part of its multi-billion dollar fundraising efforts. The tech giant is seeking to raise approximately A$5 billion (US$3.6 billion) in the deal, which includes notes with maturities ranging from three years to 20 years.
The move comes as Alphabet ramps up its spending on artificial intelligence, with the company increasing its capital expenditure forecast to as much as US$205 billion this year. This has raised concerns about how Big Tech plans to recoup profits from their massive investments in AI capabilities.
Alphabet is not alone in tapping global debt markets for funding its AI ambitions. Amazon.com Inc. has also been active in the market, making it one of the largest corporate issuers of bonds this year. Alphabet's decision to issue Australian dollar-denominated bonds takes advantage of the growing demand from foreign investors and local investors alike.
