Alphabet Taps Aussie Debt Market for $3.6 Billion AI Funding Push
Alphabet is expanding its funding channels to support its aggressive AI investment plans. The Google parent company has launched an Australian dollar bond deal, seeking to raise around A$5 billion (US$3.6 billion) from investors in Australia for the first time.
The bond sale will include four maturities, with the longest running 20 years. Alphabet is partnering with banks like ANZ to facilitate this move into the Kangaroo bond market, which has become increasingly attractive to international borrowers due to strong demand from both local and international investors.
Alphabet's move comes as it continues to invest heavily in AI infrastructure. The company recently increased its capital spending forecast to up to US$205 billion for the year, sparking concerns over how these investments will yield sustainable returns.
