Alphabet Weighs Up Record-Breaking Aussie Bond Issue
Alphabet is considering issuing its first Australian dollar-denominated bond in what would be a significant move for the tech giant.
The company has mandated investment banks to work on the deal, which could see it issue bonds with maturities of three, five, 10, and 20 years.
According to LSEG data, 'kangaroo' bond sales from foreign issuers in Australian dollars have reached a record high of AU$60 billion so far this year, up around 40 percent from the same period last year.
Alphabet raised $25 billion in dollar bonds earlier in August following an almost $85-billion equity capital raising in June. The company's massive spending on artificial intelligence is expected to reach over $730 billion this year, putting pressure on its cash flows.
