Amazon Crashes Canadian Bond Market with Record C$14 Billion Sale
Amazon's foray into Canadian bond markets has yielded record-breaking results, as the e-commerce giant sold C$14 billion ($10 billion) worth of investment-grade bonds. This marks the largest corporate bond offering in Canadian dollars to date.
The sale attracted a massive C$28 billion in orders from investors, according to Bloomberg News citing people with direct knowledge of the matter. The company launched five tranches of senior unsecured notes, spanning maturities ranging from three to 30 years.
The yield on the longest tranche is expected to be 1.10 percentage points above government bonds, which is approximately 0.05 percentage points lower than initially discussed levels. This move comes as Amazon prepares to spend around $200 billion this year on data centers, chips, and other infrastructure related to cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The company has taken on significant debt since the start of 2025, borrowing more than $70 billion, including debt sales in euros and Swiss francs. This latest bond sale is a testament to Amazon's ability to tap into global markets to fund its ambitious growth plans.
