Amazon Enters Sterling Bond Market with Aggressive £ Multi-Billion Issue
Amazon has taken its first step into the UK sterling bond market by launching its inaugural bond sale denominated in British pounds. This move marks another milestone in the tech industry's aggressive global borrowing campaign, which has seen companies raise over $200 billion through debt markets in 2026 so far.
The company is offering a range of bond tranches with different maturities, from three to 19 years. The preliminary pricing structure positioned the three-year notes at roughly 70 basis points above comparable UK government securities, while the longest 19-year tranche commanded around 110 basis points premium.
This strategic move introduces sterling to Amazon's diverse funding arsenal, which previously featured euro and Swiss franc denominations. It follows Alphabet's footsteps, which made waves in February by securing £5.5 billion through a five-part sterling bond package that notably included a 100-year maturity.
