Amazon Raises £4.25 Billion in First-Ever Sterling Bond Sale
Amazon has completed its first-ever sterling bond sale, raising almost $6 billion from investors. The tech giant sold £4.25 billion ($5.76 billion) in bonds with varying maturities, ranging from three to 19 years.
The sale is the latest example of how hyperscalers are increasingly diversifying their funding sources to finance the AI boom. Amazon's deal follows similar moves by other tech giants like Alphabet, which tapped the sterling market in February and raised £5.5 billion.
Investor demand for Amazon's bonds was strong, with final demand exceeding £10.65 billion. However, this was slightly lower than the £12 billion seen before lead banks tightened pricing.
The bonds priced with yields ranging from around 5.2% on the three-year issue to 6.7% on the 19-year bond. Sterling is the latest currency added to Amazon's funding programme, following its entry into the euro, Swiss franc, and Canadian dollar markets.
