Anand Heads to UN to Outline Canada's Post-Davos Foreign Policy

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is set to address the United Nations this fall to outline Canada's plans for implementing Prime Minister Mark Carney's vision for the global stage, as outlined in his January Davos speech.

The speech emphasized a pragmatic approach to an increasingly volatile global environment and partnering with other middle powers to resist bullying from hegemons.

Anand said that this shift in Canada's foreign policy is aimed at building a stronger domestic economy and advocating for Canadian commercial interests abroad.

She noted that this approach is already proving fruitful, citing the lifting of a ban on Canadian canola exports to Pakistan and the approval of permits for Canadian mine operators in Mexico.
