ANZ Bank Shares Expert Insights on Exporting to China
Australian and New Zealand fresh produce exporters gained valuable insights into the Asian economy at an exclusive Boardroom Breakfast in Hong Kong.
The event, hosted by ANZ Bank ahead of Asia Fruit Logistica, featured Mark Bennett, head of Australian agribusiness at ANZ Bank. Bennett emphasized that China remains a significant market for Australian fresh produce growers, but one that requires careful understanding and preparation.
Bennett noted that the Chinese economy has slowed in recent years, with GDP growth trending down to around 4%, from highs of 7-10%. However, he said this still presents opportunities for exporters. He highlighted the importance of targeting the right market within China, which is not a single entity but rather consists of various segments.
Bennett advised growers to approach exporting with caution, suggesting that being a strong domestic supplier is a good starting point before venturing into exports. He also emphasized the value of industry bodies and expert guidance in navigating trade complexities.
