ASB's chief executive officer and managing director, Vittoria Shortt, is stepping down from her role after nine years. She will finish on December 9, with Sinead Taylor taking over as CEO on December 12.

Taylor currently holds the position of Group Executive for Institutional Banking and Markets at Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Before this, she held various executive positions within the Commonwealth Bank group, including Chief Operations Officer and Executive General Manager of Bankwest.

Shortt led ASB through a significant period of change and challenge, both for the country and the banking industry. Despite these challenges, ASB has continued to adapt and perform strongly under her direction, with a focus on customers' financial wellbeing and supporting New Zealand's economy.

Taylor's appointment has received non-objection from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. Shortt plans to take a break after stepping down, during which time she will consider her next professional move.
