Asian Intervention and Soft US Data Spark Dollar Weakness
The US dollar's value has been impacted by recent events in the foreign exchange market. The AUD/USD and NZD/USD pairs have broken through to fresh highs, with the Australian and New Zealand dollars experiencing significant gains against the US dollar.
This surge can be attributed to several factors, including suspected intervention from Asian foreign exchange authorities, particularly Japan's central bank, in coordination with South Korea and the United States. This coordinated effort has contributed to the weakening of the US dollar.
Additionally, softer-than-expected US economic data, including a 0.1% increase in core PCE inflation below expectations, further added to the pressure on the dollar. The disappointing personal income and spending figures also weighed on the currency's value.
