AUD Hits Fresh High as USD Weakness Outweighs China Data
The Australian dollar has reached its highest level against the US dollar since June 5, driven by broad US dollar weakness and a softer-than-expected US economic outlook. The AUD/USD pair climbed to a fresh high during the latest trading session, extending its recent recovery as investors trimmed bets on further Federal Reserve rate hikes.
According to analysts, the primary catalyst behind the Aussie's advance was a weaker US dollar, which has been under pressure following a series of weaker-than-expected US economic indicators. Recent data on US inflation and employment have fueled speculation that the Federal Reserve may be nearing the end of its tightening cycle, reducing the dollar's yield advantage.
While soft China data posed a potential headwind for the Australian dollar, the market's focus on Fed policy and rate differentials kept the AUD supported. The Reserve Bank of Australia has maintained a relatively hawkish stance compared to the Fed, which has also supported the Australian dollar.
