AUD Holds Firm Amid Mixed Data and Hawkish RBA Stance
The Australian Dollar (AUD) has maintained its strength against major currencies, hovering around 0.67 as of Thursday's trading session.
This resilience is attributed to a combination of factors, including resilient employment figures and persistent inflation pressures that continue to support expectations for further Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) interest rate hikes.
Australia's latest jobs report revealed an addition of 35,000 new positions in May, surpassing market forecasts of 20,000, while the unemployment rate ticked down to 3.9%.
Despite mixed signals from wage growth data and consumer confidence, which dipped amid rising borrowing costs, money markets continue to price in a 70% chance of a 25-basis-point rate hike at the RBA's next policy meeting in August.
