AUD/JPY Cross Gains Strength as BoJ Decision Keeps JPY Under Pressure
The AUD/JPY cross gained strong traction during the Asian session on Friday after the Bank of Japan's decision to leave interest rates unchanged. The BoJ announced its decision at the conclusion of the July policy review meeting, confirming market expectations and keeping borrowing costs in Japan significantly lower than those in Australia.
The wide interest rate differential continues to support the AUD/JPY cross, with analysts noting that the Japanese Yen remains under pressure due to the Middle East conflict. The BoJ flagged this as a key economic and price risk, which is undermining the JPY carry trade.
Despite this, spot prices remain on track to register losses for the first time in five weeks, although the fundamental backdrop suggests further intraday appreciation. The market focus now shifts to the Reserve Bank of Australia's policy meeting on August 11.
