AUD/JPY Pauses Near 112.80 Amid Rising Hopes for BOJ Rate Hike
The Australian Dollar (AUD) against the Japanese Yen (JPY) currency pair is experiencing a brief rebound, reaching around 112.80 in early European trading hours on Friday. However, this upward movement may be limited as investors are increasingly betting on a potential interest rate hike by the Bank of Japan (BoJ), which would strengthen the JPY.
According to analysts, BoJ board member Hajime Takata suggested that the central bank should conduct interest rate hikes more quickly to combat intensifying inflationary pressures. This has led some to believe that the BoJ may be more hawkish than previously anticipated when it meets on September 17-18.
Strategists at BNY are cautious, stating they remain skeptical about the effectiveness of Japanese authorities' attempts to generate sustained JPY appreciation through intervention alone. They argue that the government's policy stance remains reflationary and that structural reform is less prominent than in the past.
