AUD Slides on Softer Inflation Data as Global Tensions Rise
The Australian Dollar has seen a significant decline of nearly 0.5% on Wednesday morning after softer than expected inflation data was released in Australia.
The quarterly inflation rate for Q2 came in at 3.9%, lower than the forecasted 4.1%. The monthly indicator for June also fell short, reaching 3.8% compared to the predicted 4.0%.
This unexpected drop has led to a decrease in expectations of interest rate hikes this year, which had been anticipated due to rising inflation concerns.
However, better-than-expected inflation numbers in Western economies have raised concerns about renewed hostilities between the US and Iran, potentially leading to increased inflationary pressures and changes in monetary policy.
