AUD Speculative Positioning Shows Signs of Easing Bearish Sentiment
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) released its latest data on speculative net positions for major currencies, including the Australian dollar. According to this week's figures, Australia's speculative net positions for the AUD improved from -$40K to -$33.2K, indicating a reduction in bearish bets among leveraged funds and speculators.
The CFTC data shows that non-commercial traders, such as hedge funds and commodity trading advisors, are still net short on the Australian dollar, with a negative number indicating more short contracts than long ones. This suggests that while sentiment is easing, it has not yet reversed.
This improvement comes amidst fluctuating commodity prices, global risk sentiment, and monetary policy expectations from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). The AUD is often seen as a proxy for risk appetite due to Australia's reliance on commodity exports, particularly iron ore and coal.
