AUD Stalls as Hawkish RBA Comments Meet Higher Yields and Hormuz Risks
The Australian Dollar (AUD) remained flat against the US Dollar (USD) on Wednesday due to conflicting market forces. The AUD/USD traded at 0.7219, unchanged from previous levels.
The US Treasury's announcement of a $6 billion securities buyback for the September 10 auction initially boosted the Greenback but its impact was short-lived. Higher US Treasury yields also offset the effects of hawkish comments from Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Deputy Governor Hauser, who hinted at potential interest rate hikes in the next meeting.
The Strait of Hormuz tensions and their impact on oil prices also weighed on the AUD/USD pair. The Producer Price Index (PPI) due out on Thursday will be closely watched for further guidance on monetary policy.
