AUD Strengthens on Treasury Buyback Bets and Commodity Price Gains
The Australian Dollar (AUD) has strengthened against the US Dollar (USD), breaking above the 0.7150 mark during Wednesday's trading session.
This move comes as the greenback comes under pressure due to speculation that the US Treasury may initiate bond buyback programs, which could inject cash into the financial system and reduce demand for the dollar.
The AUD has also received support from firmer commodity prices, particularly iron ore and coal, key exports for Australia. This improvement in terms of trade supports the currency.
Additionally, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has maintained a relatively hawkish stance compared to other central banks, signaling further rate increases may be necessary to curb inflation. This policy divergence makes the AUD an attractive carry trade candidate.
