AUD/USD Outlook Hinges on US Inflation and RBA's Hawkish Stance
The Australian dollar is entering a critical phase against the US dollar as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) maintains its hawkish stance despite leaving interest rates unchanged at 4.35% in August.
RBA Governor Michele Bullock warned that another rate increase remains possible if inflation proves persistent, particularly with geopolitical tensions threatening to generate fresh supply shocks.
The key question for the AUD/USD is whether this hawkish stance can support further gains, as Australia's relatively high interest rates could attract demand for the Australian dollar.
The outcome will also depend on the US Federal Reserve's next move, with the July US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report approaching. A softer-than-expected report would strengthen expectations that US inflation is gradually moving lower, potentially pushing Treasury yields and the US dollar lower.
