AUD/USD Surges to Three-Month High on Strong Consumer Spending Data
The Australian dollar has reached a three-month high against the US dollar, driven by improved risk appetite and robust domestic consumption.
During Asian trading hours on August 28, the AUD/USD exchange rate rose to near 0.7195, surpassing its previous highs.
This rebound is attributed to strong consumer spending data from Australia, which exceeded market expectations at 1.1% month-on-month in July.
The US dollar stabilized due to resilient employment data and hawkish remarks from Federal Reserve officials, but Wall Street continued its upward momentum driven by NVIDIA's earnings report.
While the US Dollar Index held steady near 99.12, and the yield on the 10-year US Treasury note rose to 4.676%, traders remain cautious about potential volatile rebounds in the US dollar following the Jackson Hole symposium.
