August Inflation Surge Driven by Soaring Gas Prices
US inflation accelerated in August as gas prices spiked, according to recent data. The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures the average change in prices of a basket of goods and services, rose by 0.4% from July to August. This increase was largely driven by a jump in gasoline prices, which increased by 10.9% over the same period.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that gas prices have been rising steadily since June, with August's prices reaching their highest point this year. The rising cost of fuel is likely to have a significant impact on consumer spending and inflation in the coming months.
