August Jobs Report Smashes Expectations with 162K Hiring Spree
The US labor market has delivered another strong performance, surpassing expectations in August. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that nonfarm payrolls increased by 162,000, nearly triple the consensus estimate of 55,000. This marked a significant turnaround from July's revised decline of 23,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1%, while the labor force participation rate edged up to 61.6%. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3% in August and 3.1% from a year earlier.
Treasury yields jumped sharply following the report, with the two-year yield approaching 4.4% and the benchmark 10-year yield moving near 4.8%.
