August Nonfarm Payrolls: Labor Market Resilience or Short-Term Fluctuation?

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the August nonfarm payrolls report on September 4, a critical macro data point ahead of the Federal Reserve's September FOMC meeting. The labor market has cooled lately, with July's unexpected decline in nonfarm payrolls and downward revisions to May and June figures showing a weaker performance than initially reported.

A Reuters survey expects an increase of around 56,000 in August nonfarm payrolls, compared to 58,000 in the previous week's survey. However, even if this expectation is met, job creation has slowed significantly from the robust growth seen in recent years.

ADP data released recently showed a decline in U.S. private sector employment in August, with only 38,000 jobs added, below market expectations of 48,000 and lower than July's revised figure.
