Aussie Dollar Loses Momentum as RBA Policy Path Uncertainty Weighs

The Australian dollar has lost its bullish momentum due to weaker commodity prices and uncertainty over the Reserve Bank of Australia's policy path. The AUD/USD pair is trading near its lowest level in over a month, with immediate support at 0.6500. A break below this level could lead to further downside, potentially testing the 2024 low near 0.6360.

The recent decline in iron ore prices has reduced the terms-of-trade support that underpins the Aussie. The RBA's monetary policy outlook has also become less clear, with mixed inflation data leading traders to pare back expectations for near-term tightening. This divergence from the U.S. Federal Reserve has widened the yield differential in favor of the U.S. dollar.

From a technical perspective, the AUD/USD pair has broken below its 50-day moving average, which is often watched by traders as an early warning of further downside. The path of least resistance appears to be lower without a fresh catalyst, such as stronger Chinese economic data or a hawkish surprise from the RBA.
