Aussie, Kiwi Under Pressure Ahead of GDP Announcements
The Australian and New Zealand dollars are under pressure ahead of key economic announcements. The AUD/USD was flat on Monday, but traders are waiting for the release of June quarter GDP numbers due on Wednesday at 11:30am AEST.
The NZD/USD is near two-week lows, with markets anticipating a likely Reserve Bank of New Zealand rate hike on Wednesday.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expressed confidence in Japan's ability to contain yen weakness, saying recent moves do not resemble the disorderly market that prompted joint intervention last month.
The BoJ Governor Kazuo Ueda is expected to take the appropriate policy steps with the support of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, according to Bessent.
In other regional currency markets, USD/SGD is trading about 1% above its 28 January low of 1.2586.
