The Australian dollar (AUD) reached its highest point since early June as tensions between the US and Iran escalated, pushing oil prices up.
WTI crude gained 2.6%, while Brent crude climbed 2.9%.
This led to the AUD/USD pair gaining 0.3%, making it the best-performing major currency overnight.
