Australian Inflation Rate Falls to Lowest Level Since February
Australia's inflation rate has fallen to its lowest level since February, easing fears of another interest rate hike. According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), headline inflation dropped from 4% to 3.8% in June.
The trimmed mean, which is preferred by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), remained steady at 3.6%, defying central bank predictions of a rise to 3.8%. This reduction in inflation coincided with transport costs moderating for the month.
Treasurer Jim Chalmers welcomed the inflation figures, saying they were reassuring after a period of economic volatility. He noted that the next phase of the conflict could be more challenging for the global economy, particularly with the oil market now more vulnerable.
