Australian Shares Waver on US Rate Fears Amid Soaring Oil Prices
Australia's share market had a shaky start to the week, following a weak finish for US equities on Friday.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index inched up 0.7 points to 9,093, while the broader All Ordinaries lost 5.1 points to 9,286 by noon on Monday.
The move was triggered by hawkish comments from Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh, which prompted markets to brace for a US interest rate hike as soon as September.
Brent crude prices surged above $US90 a barrel after reports of the US targeting Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz, sparking retaliation strikes.
