Australia's Dividend Boom: Record $8 Billion Paid Out in Q2
Australian companies paid out a record $8 billion in dividends for the second quarter of this year, according to Capital Group's latest Dividend Watch.
This represents a 7.9% increase from the same period last year and beats expectations even at the global high point for Q2.
The strong Australian dollar played a significant role in this growth, having jumped over 6% against the US dollar this year.
The mining sector was a standout performer, with companies such as Rio Tinto increasing their dividends after a long period of stagnation. Other sectors that contributed significantly to growth include financials and global biotech and biopharmaceutical firms.
