Azerbaijan's Economy May Be Resilient Amid Potential Fed Rate Hike
The US economy's labor market has shown stronger-than-expected gains in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 162,000, and the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1 percent.
This development has dampened expectations of a slowdown in the US economy, increasing the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates at their current levels or raise them in a more severe scenario.
A Fed rate hike could boost yields on US dollar-denominated assets, making the dollar more attractive to investors and increasing capital flows into the US. This could put pressure on emerging market currencies and financial markets.
Azerbaijan's economy may be less affected by this trend due to its large foreign exchange revenues from energy exports and high foreign exchange reserves. The country's official foreign exchange reserves amount to $13.77 billion as of July 31, the highest figure since 2015.
