B.C. Business Groups Sound Alarm Over Escalating Trade Tensions
British Columbia business groups are sounding the alarm over the province's economy in light of escalating trade tensions between Canada and the United States.
The B.C. Chamber of Commerce is among those calling on the province to act, with President Jen Riley stating that local stakeholders have already been hard hit by inflation and other challenges.
Riley said that 14% of B.C.'s exports will be affected by 50% tariffs from the U.S., which went into effect Saturday.
Bridgitte Anderson, president of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the tariffs unfairly target B.C. businesses and threaten jobs.
